Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Edda Pétursdóttir and I'm from Reykjavík Iceland.
Where are you based now, and what brought you there?
I was living in NYC for 17 years before I ended up in Berlin due to my fiancé's work.
“My work focuses on capturing a moment in time, whether it's portraiture, lifestyle imagery, or just the perfect light. ”
In NY I was working primarily as a model, I had a successful career, travelled a bunch and worked with so many talented people. When I moved to Berlin four years ago, I knew no one except for my partner. So I decided to study again, something I always wanted to learn but never felt I had the time to, that was photography. Now I work primarily as a photographer with the occasional modeling gigs on the side. I have a two-year-old daughter now, so most of my past time I spend with her. She is definitely my reason for being.
Tell us more about your photography.
My work focuses on capturing a moment in time, whether it's portraiture, lifestyle imagery, or just the perfect light. I love brand development and am very hands on when it comes to working with art direction and such.
“I have been lucky to work with brands that I admire and look up to, most brands I collaborate with I would wear myself.”
Derre Ring - Cognac Diamonds, Carte Ring - Cognac Diamonds, Vrinde Necklace Gold
Describe your personal style.
Androgynous, classic, comfortable, simple.
How does your style reflect your art/work?
I have been lucky to work with brands that I admire and look up to, most brands I collaborate with I would wear myself.
Vrinde Bracelet, Blazer - Christian Dior
What sort of jewellery do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
Fine jewellery, mostly gold. I like stacking things.
Tell us the story behind your jewellery.
Well my favourite piece I have is my engagement ring, my partner designed it himself which I thought was very special. He was influenced by my favourite jewellery stores that I used to shop at in NYC - Catbird and Love Adorned were my favourite at the time. He put the ideas together, went to London's diamond district and chose the most beautiful diamond and the gold band is a bit rugged and brushed 18 karat gold. Most of my other jewellery I have collected through the years are mainly from friends that I wanted to support and also just loved.
Bahar Double Ring, Derre Ring - S&P Diamonds, Vespe Ring - Cloudy Sapphire, Dress - Rick Owens
How does jewellery work in your day-to-day look?
I wear my stacked golden rings the same every day. And usually a thin golden chain. If I'm going out in the evening I might add a chunky necklace or bigger earrings depending on the outfit.

Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Chi and I am ceramicist based in Berlin. I was born in Hanoi Vietnam.
Where are you based now, and what brought you there?
I’m a Berliner. Grew up here and love to live here. My studio is here in Berlin. But I spend a lot of time in the uk countryside, to spend time with friends and family.
“I really feel a real intrinsic and almost monogamous connection to clay.”
“Nature, its beauty, fragility, and the mandatory need to preserve it, is a constant and very tangible influence when working elements of the Earth.”
How did you get into ceramics?
I used to run a fusion Japanese restaurant for over 12 years and I was always looking for unusual and unique table ware. Me and my mum started to produce our own bowls and plates made of porcelain. We created the design and they got produced in Vietnam in our hometown. It was such a cute idea but it took very long and shipping way was also not very sustainable. So I thought I should learn how to do it. When I started 2016 with my first classes and internship I felt immediately in love with the process. Everything was so different then from my work life.
“It’s the intangible connection of Earth to it’s surroundings that allows me to freely channel my own creativity into the materials.”
As a ceramicist, I really feel a real intrinsic and almost monogamous connection to clay. It’s strange to put it in these terms but clay really does reward your full-time commitment and without this commitment, it’s impossible to create work that is different. There is such a level of failure to eventually get successful that once you achieve some results you realise that the ceramic world is so vast that you can’t help but get lost in it. Other materials or media just don’t seem as nourishing.
Your biggest inspiration for your work at the moment?
Inspiration for my work in general comes in many forms. Nature, its beauty, fragility, and the mandatory need to preserve it, is a constant and very tangible influence when working elements of the Earth. But it’s the intangible connection of Earth to it’s surroundings that allows me to freely channel my own creativity into the materials - finding surges of inspiration and motivation from the moon and it's cycles. For me, the moon is a reminder of my own wanderlust and longing for freedom, a symbol of peacefulness, tranquility, and boundlessness. Not always visible, but it’s presence always felt. Our closest ally and yet a constant reminder of that very fragility with which we and all around us exists.
How would you describe your personal style? Does this style influence your work?
A mix of classic timeless wool or cashmere pieces and colorful mesh top or pants. Sometimes with a beret hat or a silk scarf. But always with my earrings on.
Best album to listen to whilst creating?
Ori Lichtik, Cello music or FKA Twigs
Tell us the story behind your jewellery.
My bracelet I’m wearing was a present to myself, I bought my partner the same. It’s silver, chunky and has a golden closure. My necklaces are gifts from my grandmother, my friend sarnai and vintage necklace I bought in Spain. I have plenty ear piercings, some a simple pearls from my friend from Bali or little diamonds. I literally never take them out.

Who you are and where you're from?
Thomas: My name is Thomas Dilley and I’m from Central Coast, Australia
Tatiana: Hi, I’m Tatiana Melendez and I’m from Tampa, Florida
Where are you based now, what brought you there?
Thomas: I’m currently based in New York City as I’m professional dancing with a contemporary ballet company.
Tatiana: I’m a professional dancer with Complexions Contemporary Ballet which is based in NYC. Living in NYC was a dream of mine for so long and I’ve now been living here for nearly 4 years.
Tell us about your work, passions, pass times, reason for being.
Thomas: Being a professional dancer was my biggest passion growing up and I revolved my whole life around it and now it’s my full time job, but aside from dance I love living a healthy lifestyle, working out and spending a lot of time in the sun doing outdoor activities.
Tatiana: Becoming a professional dancer was what I’ve always wanted to be growing up. It was my greatest passion and is now my profession. I’ve also recently developed a passion for health/wellness & fitness. As an artistic person, I love that dancing essentially combines both the artistic side of myself as well as the athletic side to myself.
Vrinde Bracelet
Describe your personal style.
Thomas: My personal style is very minimalistic, I love clean plain neutral colours with a contrasting colour on my shoes or jewellery.
Tatiana: My personal style reflects what I feel on a daily basis. Some days I love to wear color and incorporate statement pieces in what I wear and other days I like to wear basics and keep it simple.
“As an artistic person, I love that dancing essentially combines both the artistic side of myself as well as the athletic side to myself.”
Earrings
How does your style reflect your art/work?
Thomas: I think the attention to little details apply to my style which really reflects the way I like to dance. I really like to focus on the little details when it comes to me dancing as I feel like that Is what completes the movement and in this case completes my style.
“I think the attention to little details apply to my style which really reflects the way I like to dance.”
Tatiana: As a dancer, it’s rare I get to wear anything other than a leotard but when I get the chance to wear something other than my dance attire, I like to play around with putting together outfits that reflect me and my style.
Broken Pared Ring, Vrinde Bracelet
What sort of jewelry do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
Thomas: I’m drawn to all types of jewellery, I love all different pieces, shapes and colours. I love unique jewellery that you don’t see everywhere without it being such a statement. I often just want to get piercings so I can wear more jewellery.
Tatiana: I primarily am drawn to gold, dainty jewelry. I’m a small girl so I feel overpowered by my jewelry if it’s too large. I like to mix gold and silver but because I have tanned skin with olive/golden undertones I feel as though gold jewelry suits me most.
Vespe Ring - Rutile Quarz, Vrinde Bracelet, Earring
“As a dancer, it’s rare I get to wear anything other than a leotard”
Vrinde Bracelet, Earring
Tell us the story behind you your jewellery.
Thomas: I wish I could have a really in-depth story, but honestly I just really love the look of the pieces I own.
Tatiana: I feel as though jewelry plays a huge role in my confidence and how I express myself. I always feel so bare whenever I don’t have on any jewelry. I feel as though the jewelry I wear adds an elegant, feminine touch to my look which is how I like to portray myself.

Who you are and where you're from?
My friends call me Anne, I am from Indonesia. Originally, I grew up in several cities in Java.
Where do you live and why?
Unlike most of my family members or Indonesians in general, I have always known what I wanted since I was super young. That’s why I left my parents’ house when I was 18 for uni and then moved to Bali after I graduated. Bali is like Berlin in an island version sort of way. That’s why I love Bali so much and have lived there for the last 5 years.

I tend to be a bit different in the family in terms of passion and the way of thinking. For example, l am the only person in my family and relatives that has a passion in art and design. In the last 9 years, I also have been modeling for fashion and a bit of commercials as well. Loving all what I do at the moment.

Describe your personal style.
I have always been a tomboy since I was a kid and so it also effects my personal style. I love to wear simple things to go out like jeans, trousers, basics, small backpacks and maybe boots or short stiletto heels when I’m in the mood. I rarely put make up either, but sunscreen is a must!
"I do respect people who have the "beauty is pain" motto but for me, comfort is number one."
How does your style reflect your art/work?
It reflects my work and personality; it’s simple, to the point, not too feminine and most importantly it’s comfortable. I do respect people who have the “beauty is pain” motto but for me, comfort is number one.
Pendent Necklace, Textured Linea Ring
What sort of jewelry do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
On a daily basis I always wear two simple designs of rings and smaller ear studs sometimes. For formal occasions, I do love to wear a statement pair of earrings. I rarely wear necklaces, for some reason, I feel most uncomfortable wearing them - especially chokers.
Tell us the story behind you your jewellery.
The jewellery that is super memorable for me is the jewellery I inherited from my great grandmother, a pair of diamond ear studs. The design is a simple yet beautiful Javanese/Indonesian classic. Every time I wear it, I feel like I bring my ancestors blood with me. I am always reminded that I have Javanese blood and I’m very proud of it.

Which piece/s from Mies Nobis do you own?
From Mies Nobis, I have the Textured Earcuffs, in 18k gold vermeil
How do you wear it?
Luckily because I have super small fingers, I can wear the big one as a ring. Ever since I got them, I wear them every day. I wear the small one (as an ear-cuff) when I go out or hang out with friends.
Terre Ring - Black Diamonds, Broken Pared Ring - Black Diamonds
Who you are and what you do?
My name is Maya and I’m currently a communications student studying and working in Vienna. For the past two years I have been working as a freelancer managing various social media accounts and doing content creation. Also, I am the new assistant for MIES NOBIS.
Where are you from, what’s it like?
I grew up on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. There will always be something special about Hawaii. The weather is warm, the people are friendly, the nature is beautiful, and the fresh fish is to die for. No “poke bowl” in Europe can compare.
Broken Pared Ring - Black Diamonds
Tell us about your work, passions, pass times, reason for being.
In all aspects of my life, I try to do things that bring me joy – even with work. As a freelancer I have been fortunate enough to be able to do that. I’m young and I’m still figuring out my life. Career wise I am not exactly sure what I want to do but I know I like to make things look pretty and make people have fun and I think I will be able to find something that will allow me to do both.
"In all aspects of my life, I try to do things that bring me joy"
My biggest passions are cooking and making new experiences. My favorite part of the day is always coming home and cooking myself an elaborate dinner. It’s a way for me to relax and treat myself with something delicious. I love to make new experiences. Whether that is by meeting new people or moving to the other side of the world. I enjoy the unfamiliar.
Claavi Ring, Cut-Out Claavi Ring - Diamonds, Texturized Claavi Ring
Describe your personal style.
I have a shopping addiction and I tend to buy pieces that look a bit ridiculous. I am a big fan of textures – I love vintage furs, feathers, and leather. Overall, I would say my style is a bit edgier in the winter and kind of western, bohemian in the summer. I love a good poncho and a statement pair of cowboy boots. My friends say that I am always overdressed but perhaps they’re just underdressed.
"My friends say that I am always overdressed but perhaps they're just underdressed."
What sort of jewelry do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
I am drawn to gold jewellery because it compliments my warmer skin tone. I never wore much jewellery in the past and it wasn’t actually until I met Milli (MIES NOBIS) when I found my appreciation for it.
Cut-Out Claavi Ring - Diamonds, Texturized Claavi Ring
Tell us the story behind you your jewellery.
All of my jewellery are gifts or pieces I’ve inherited from my family. Last Christmas my mom gave me my great-great grandma’s gold bracelet. There are two repeating Chinese characters on the bracelet that translate to luck and longevity.
How does jewelry work in your day to day look?
Before I leave my apartment, I always put on my watch and my ring from MIES NOBIS.

I originally come from a very countryside area in saxony. beautiful landscapes, a lot of nature but also a narrow-minded vibe
Where do you live and why?
In Berlin-Neukölln- for me it is the most amazing place in the city. I have the feeling that everything and everyone flows together here. art, culture, cuisine, people, old and young, good and bad - pretty authentic

Who are you and what do you do?
I graduated from university last summer with a degree in Fashion Photography. I’ve spent the last year freelancing as a Photographer and interning at AA-Collected doing a lot of content creation which has been great! I’m in no rush to settle into a strict career, I get the feeling I won’t ever be. I like to be fluid and am always thinking of my next move, so for the time being I’m going to experiment and hopefully experience a whole bunch of stuff.
"I’m in no rush to settle into a strict career, I get the feeling I won’t ever be"
Where are you from, what’s it like?
I’m from Bristol in England and I love it! Maybe I’m a typical patriotic brit, but for me there is no place like home. I feel a strong sense of community in Bristol, the music scene is great, it’s a very artistic city, very passionate, liberal and free spirited.

My passion for Photography started when I was around 12. I was obsessed with Americas Next Top Model. After an episode I’d make my unwilling sister dress up really weird and backcomb her hair… backcombing the hair was always a must! We’d go out in the garden and take photos on my mums iPhone 3.
Now, the conceptual side to my photography is the part I’m most passionate about. An image is so much more when it has a backstory, a meaning. That feeling when something clicks and all these ideas fill my head is the best part of the process and definitely the most creative.
"That feeling when something clicks and all these ideas fill my head is the best part of the process and definitely the most creative"

Describe your personal style.
Now it’s mostly anything comfy. I’ve started to care a lot less about what I look like on a daily basis. But if I had to define my style, I’d say in summer it’s more beachy and colourful and in winter more grunge, 00’s style but with a kinda girly chic twist, idk. I rarely wear heels or anything like that when I’m dressing up, I’d rather look cool than sexy. I think people are more sexy when they’re effortlessly cool anyway.
"I think people are more sexy when they’re effortlessly cool anyway"
How does your style reflect your art/work?
My photography leans more towards a fine art style rather than commercial. It’s romantic and elegant but with a bit of an edge, a slightly darker side, which I suppose is the same as my personal style. My work does of course shift depending on what’s inspiring me and how I’m feeling, same as my personal style, I’m not too consistent with it.
Gold Claavi Ring w. Tourmaline
What sort of jewellery do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
I like gold, it’s more glamorous for sure, but I’m always drawn to silver. It’s fresh, bright and goes with everything.
"My photography leans more towards a fine art style rather than commercial, it’s romantic and elegant but with a bit of an edge, a slightly darker side"
Tell us the story behind you your jewellery.
I wear a ring on my thumb which I never take off, the longer I’ve had it the more it means to me. I think it belonged to my mum’s dad who I never met. The story of it becoming mine however isn’t very touching, I just took it from her jewellery box years ago and she was cool with it. All the jewellery I wear has been gifted to me, it’s all special, except my hoops which I always lose so only ever buy the cheapest ones.
How does jewellery work in your day-to-day look?
I wear the same jewellery dressing up as I do on a daily basis. Unless I’m switching to gold for the night.

"I felt like it was the right city to get inputs, make new connections and evolve in different ways"
Where do you live and why?
I moved to Berlin to discover different art practices. I felt like it was the right city to get inputs, make new connections and evolve in different ways. I moved at 21, Berlin has been the city that made me grow. Everything felt really smooth, I didn’t have time to question things as one thing led to another.
Tell us about your work, passions, pass times, reason for being.
My work is multidisciplinary and conceptual. I work by series where the media can vary between performance, installations, sculpture or even video. Exploring different media is a great way to explore different parts of myself and to not get stuck into one dynamic. All media I use are interconnected. I see my work more as a lifestyle that fulfills me in every aspect of it. I am not sure I can separate it from my pass-times as I am passionate about it. If I have something in mind that I want to create, there is no time nor excuses not to do it. I would prioritize it over everything, until my impulses are satisfied. I am also very happy to work as an artist assistant, it is really inspiring for my own practice and I get to learn new techniques.
"I see my work more as a lifestyle that fulfills me in every aspect of it"
Describe your personal style.
My personal style as my personal traits are full of contrasts. I can wear multicolored garments as well as all black. I am fascinated to see how our choices of clothing affects our moods and social interactions. I would come to work wearing a feminine dress, get changed and be ready to get my shirt full of paint and dirt. I am happy to juggle between different contexts and styles as it never gets boring.
However, I am very grateful for the down to earth values that my family transmitted to me and for my supportive childhood friends that I am happy to visit whenever possible. My background is also what defines me and therefore I find it important to stay connected to my roots.
Broken Pared Ring w. Tourmailine
How does your style reflect your art/work?
If I work on a colorful series of artworks, I tend to wear only black, in contrast with the actual artworks that I create, which doesn’t make sense since I am not hanging out in public places with my paintings and nobody can see nor even understand this contrast. People probably just see a woman wearing black. Sometimes it makes me laugh. It became an automatic pattern that I do.
What sort of jewelry do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
Gold, timeless, exclusive, sometimes eccentric too.
Kukir Ring - Labradorite, Gold Densa Ring - Peridot

All the jewelry I wear comes from my family. My mum gave me her two rings that she was wearing when she was my age. It never leaves me. We both wear a necklace with a cross which also connects us in a personal way.

Textured c/o Claavi Ring - Gold Vermeil, Solmu Double Ring
How does jewelry work in your day to day look? (Or is it only for dressing up?)
I wear jewelry that has a story and heritage. It reminds me of who I am, my past, memories and people. I wear the same ones everyday, every night. As in my art practice, it usually works by phases. It can last weeks, months, years until I find a new obsession. I wouldn’t buy jewelry for myself though as it would be insignificant to me. I see my jewelry as being part of my identity.

(as seen above)
"If you feel pretty everything seems much more colorful."

(Any Sentimental pieces you own? Where they come from)

Who you are and what you do?
I am media artist and designer working with interactive web & moving image and exploring speculative futures.
Where are you from, what’s it like?
I’m originally from Kazan (Russia), and later I moved to Moscow. Many people are comparing Moscow to Berlin but I think it has more NY or London vibes: it never sleeps, you are in perpetual flux of being active. Berlin is for chilling while Moscow is the city for doing.
"I think my style emerged from mixing my cultural backgrounds - It has a European bohemian casual style with some Russian fancy touch."

My work is currently divided between what I do for a living (I’m working as a digital designer for Strelka institute of Media, Architecture and design) and what I do for my independent practice. At the moment I’m working on my film that pictures a post-work society in the air-scarcity future.
"I think jokes are very powerful in transferring complex ideas or critique."
Describe your personal style.
Over the years I started to care less about fashion and prefer to wear only clothes that I feel comfortable in. I would never wear a tracksuit or worn-out T-shirt to go outside though. I think my style emerged from mixing my cultural backgrounds - It has a European bohemian casual style with some Russian fancy touch.
I’m also very much into dressing up with adding some humor and cultural references into my outfits. In Moscow we do different thematic parties - for one of them I created a “capitalism” Costume covering myself with fake dollar banknotes.

How does your style reflect your art/work?
I’m very much into internet and meme culture so I guess it impacts the way I approach my style in the ironic way. Same goes for my artist practice. I think jokes are very powerful in transferring complex ideas or critique.
What sort of jewelry do you wear/ or are you drawn to?
I barely wear any jewelry: i have the only ring which I always have on my finger since 15 years ago with lots of scratches on it. When I go out I like sometimes to add one-two massive pieces, mostly rings or earrings.

"When I go out I like sometimes to add one-two massive pieces, mostly rings or earrings."
Tell us the story behind your jewellery.
In the past few years I’m wearing simple silver round earrings that I’m getting as a gift from my mum every 1-2 years because I keep losing one of them all the time.

"I feel like we are influenced by the place we are born, and retain the memories of that place to a great degree."
Where are you from, what’s it like?
I grew up between cities in China and Toronto. I was born in Xi'an, which was the ancient imperial capital and departure point of the Silk Road. I feel like we are influenced by the place we are born, and retain the memories of that place to a great degree. Toronto is an energetic and vibrant city. It has a lot of drive, but also a bit of adolescent insecurity that comes with it still being a relatively young city. Not in a bad way, just the ability to shapeshift. Food is incredible, music is dope, the people are hot. Keeps the winters warm.
Where do you live and why?
I now live in Berlin. A curiosity, a nudge from life, and a bit of romance at the time being the culprits.

Tell us about your work, passions, pass times, reasons for being.
I love working at the intersection of various topics. Research and storytelling. Creativity and tech. I have a couple projects happening in this arena at the moment that I am excited about. Exposing human truths and be the conduit for the human condition.
Staying connected with myself, whilst growing at the same time is important. This helps me show up in the best way when I'm out in the world. Anything that helps me get to know who that is, whether it's reading philosophy, meditating, or being connected through nature.
"Staying connected with myself, whilst growing at the same time is important. This helps me show up in the best way when I'm out in the world."
Describe your personal style.
(for work, for home comfort, for dressing up/going out)
I think the older I’ve gotten the more I pay close attention to material, tailoring, fabric, quality. The few pieces I love have those attributes, or I fell in love with some little detail like a cool pleat or some elaborate embroidery. Comfort is also very key. Oh god, I have almost no memory of what it was like to really dress up to go out, I miss it!
Kirea Ring with Pave Diamonds, Silver Kirea Ear Cuffs
How does your style reflect your work?
I gravitate towards cleaner lines, and I do love a little color in my wardrobe, perhaps has to do with my design background. Everyone in Berlin loves to go head to toe black. But actually, since the pandemic, I've been seeing a lot more color in the streets, I think people want to be noticed a little more after a year of not going out and staying home!
"I love looking at the jewelry other people choose to wear."
What sort of jewelry do you wear/or are you drawn to?
I appreciate the precision of the craft or I am drawn to pieces that reflect the inner world of the maker. Or a good tension from both is always interesting. I love looking at the jewelry other people choose to wear too. I always compliment people on their jewelry, if I like it.

Tell us the story behind your jewellery. (Any sentimental pieces you own? Where they come from)
My mother had a ring made for herself when she was in her early twenties in Shanghai, it has a gold band and a light blue stone. I wear this almost every day. I guess being far away from home you always want a little reminder of where you came from. I also like to buy pieces when I'm traveling here and there, they serve as nice memories. A couple months ago when I was in Cairo, I met this goldsmith and ended up buying a couple pieces from him.
"I guess being far away from home you always want a little reminder of where you came from."
How does jewelry work in your day to day look? (Or is it only for dressing up?)
I’m normally not so fussy when it comes to jewelry. When I decide to wear something, it's when I want to reveal a more playful side of myself. Eclectic or minimal, really depends on my mood.
Densa Ring with Labradorite Pair, Broken Pared Ring with Pave Tourmaline
Which piece/s from Mies Nobis do you own?
I have the Broken Pared ring, I love the big crack on one side of it. Reminds me of this Leonard cohen line from the song Anthem “There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in.”
How do you wear it?
(every day, on occasion, styled with what)
It fits on my middle finger perfectly. I wear it anytime I want to be hugged really close on my middle finger. I get countless compliments on it.

Where are you based now, what brought you there?
I moved to Berlin in 2010 and I have been based here since.
How did you know this was different to the other hobbies you had?
In 2010 I started working as a model and makeup artist. At some point I just felt very connected to the medium and begun an internship with a photographer, then I knew that was something I wanted to go deeper into, and a year later, went to uni to study photography.
Best album to listen to whilst creating?
I’m obsessed with Nina Kraviz at the moment.

Tried and true methods against creative block?
Leave the house, go for a walk. Give yourself a break. If the blockage is major, take a whole day or two to do whatever isn’t related to work. Meet your friends and talk it through.
What's your most recent achievement?
I’ve just released my very first photobook as an independent publication.

What’s your heritage, where are you originally from?
Originally I’m from the Ruhr Area in North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, a place full of contradictions and hearty people, that I still love coming back to.
Where are you based now, what brought you there?
Right after finishing school I felt the strong need to leave the familiar behind and moved to Berlin. I was drawn by its ability to constantly reinvent itself and by somehow always “getting up again”. It’s a city full of darkness, yet so full of light and joy.
I also wanted the excitement, the adventure, the inspiration, the weirdness. And I was so ready to meet like-minded people from all around the world and connect over things I cared about: art, culture, music, late-night-conversations about our society and the meaning of life… all the things many people come searching for here.
After years of studying, living and working in Berlin (with some time apart in Toronto, Canada) the city has become my home, my crazy, colourful, sometimes annoying, sometimes harsh comfort zone, that sneaked its way into my heart just like that. I do believe though that you can have several “homes”, different places or even people, giving you that special feeling. For me that’s also Toronto, my heart always skips a beat when I return and look at the waterfront for the first time.
Eklim Ring with Gemstones
What’s your earliest memory of Photography?
My parents were always shooting film on a Canon reflex camera and I just loved everything about it: the sound of the shutter, the smell of a fresh film roll, this magical moment you’d pick up the film from the shop. The camera was bulky and heavy and my hands small, but a few times my father would help me use it and I was hooked. When I turned 10 my family gifted me a little 35mm Olympus Mju, which I just LOVED and used all the time. I had my sister dress up and pose for me, built little sets, took photos of all my favourite humans, animals and places and spent most of my pocket money on film rolls.
How did you know this was different to the other hobbies you had?
Being artistic and creating something with my mind, eyes and hands has always felt super natural for me, from my earliest memories on, so I can’t really pinpoint a certain moment of realization. I guess subconsciously I always knew that it was just a very big part of me, so it naturally evolved further and turned into a career when I grew up and had to find a way to make money. I just could not imagine doing anything else. It’s not always easy to “turn your passion into a career” and it surely hasn’t been for me either, but I was never the one going for a certain look of my résumé, I just trusted my intuition and took it step by step. Or I still do, the journey isn’t over at all.
Broken Pared Ring with Tourmailine
When did you decide to pursue Photography/Set Design, how did your family members and friends respond to this decision?
As I was always the one sewing, crafting, photographing, building stuff, collecting weird objects or talking about all the ideas in my head, it did not come as a surprise for my loved ones. I feel super lucky to come from a family that supported that desire and told me to go for what makes me happy, I know that that’s nothing to be taken for granted. Sometimes it’s very abstract for them to understand my day to day life (even for me, haha) but they are always making an effort.
I've got a lot of friends and family members working in very different fields, which I think is amazing, I love hearing about their day-to-day at their jobs. luckily I've also got a bunch of freelancer and artist friends, which is amazing for supporting each other - exchanging ideas, struggles and celebrating each others achievements. It helps a lot and makes me feel more like a part of something.
Gold Densa Ring - Peridot
Your biggest inspiration for your work at the moment?
Staying inspired has been more challenging than ever for me this past year, but I’m finding that my love for details really helps here; I can spot a lot of interesting things on my daily walks and bike rides - sometimes something as trivial as a puddle, leafs and some plastic trash, beautifully reflecting the light can go a long way. I’m documenting those walks with my film camera to memorize and potentially use for my work.
I’m also forever inspired by nature: the shape of a certain plant or piece of vegetable can keep me staring at it for minutes in awe, so I’m trying to be in touch with that a lot.
Apart from that, I also (re-)discovered all the amazing books I already own, so much history and knowledge, right in front of me. Lately I’ve been into costume design a lot and a guilty pleasure: I browse Ebay Kleinanzeigen like a museum, I just have a fascination for objects, their reason for existing, how and why they were made, their shapes, colours, owners and history. And sometimes I really need to take them home.
Textured Linea Ring - Gold Vermeil
How would you describe your personal style, does this style influence your work?
My style and work definitely go hand in hand. I go through different color phases and naturally see those in both my work and they way I dress. I've always loved clothing/fashion, as a way to express myself and play around with different textures, colours and styles. It allows me to be creative and re-invent myself on a daily basis. And like my props, I love clothes with a history, I buy a lot of vintage and mix different eras.
Best album to listen to whilst creating?
Totally depends on what I’m working on and the way I’m feeling. Right now 'New Energy' by Four Tet is very suitable.
Textured c/o Claavi Ring - Gold Vermeil
Tried and true methods against creative block?
Getting outside and moving. ALWAYS. Gardening and caring about my plants also really helps a lot. And cooking. In general I find physical and sensual tasks to be super helpful if you feel stuck. Chopping veggies or plating with soil allows my mind to let go. And something that is hopefully soon coming and that I miss dearly: Real, physical interactions with a diverse range of people and lifestyles.
What's your most recent achievement?
My little windowsill “garden”.

What’s your heritage, where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Brazil. The history of the country's ancestral identity is complex since it's a highly multi-ethnic population, so a part of my heritage has been lost in my family over the generations.
Where are you based now, what brought you there?
I’ve been living in Berlin for three years now since I moved from my hometown in search of better opportunities for me and my family. Growing up as a woman in Brazil and working as a low income self-taught artist has never been easy, and now with all the violence we are experiencing with a dictatorship in power, things have become even more serious.

Best album to listen to whilst creating?
I dont like listening to music while painting cause I feel more focused on the silence. But I love loud music when I arrive at the studio and I’m getting ready to work or while I wait for the paintings to dry. One of the albums that's in my life daily is The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, I feel like I learn something new every time I hear it.

Tried and true methods against creative block?
I always say that I don't believe in creative blocks. I think we tend to judge ourselves a lot and, most of the time, we think that our ideas are not good enough to be put on paper. All ideas are valid, a part of a process and a big step towards developing our imagination. Even when the only thing your mind can do is doodle, try to put your ideas out there without thinking too much and leave the dualities of beautiful and ugly, bad or good behind. Give yourself time too, sometimes we just need to breathe a little. This can make a big difference in the way you handle your creativity.
What are your daily rituals: Weekday vs. weekend?
"I felt like It was time to take control and stop being distracted or disbelieving in my own capabilities. (you are your own biggest critic)
However, I quickly realised that staying In the city that broke me might not be the best place to heal. So I started thinking about Berlin again. 2 weeks later, I was working as a hostess on a tec-convention & met two guys from berlin. We went for drinks after and I remember joking about how funny it would be if I actually moved to berlin now. Two weeks later there I was.. Living in berlin :)Zinkir Choker - Kirea Earcuff in silver
